Covid 19

Supporting The NHS Through The Covid-19 Pandemic

We have proudly been supporting the NHS through the Covid 19 Pandemic with our rapid diagnostics kit and antibody tests.

Right at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, we increased our lab capacity to enable us to produce 450,000 tests each week, which we supplied into over 35 NHS trusts.

Not only that, but during the start of the pandemic, we managed to continue to deliver our tests and equipment, thanks to the private delivery fleet we put on. We supported the NHS by ensuring the tests were available and delivered before they needed them.

From our lab in The Wirral, we distribute world beating testing kits, essential in the fight against Covid 19.

Covid Anti Body Testing

The Proflow™ SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Test is only available through Pro-Lab Diagnostics.

These tests rapidly detect SARS-CoV-2 antigens in human nasopharyngeal swab samples and provide results in just 10 minutes.

The test membrane is pre-coated with monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 antigens on the test line region. When the sample is placed on the membrane it reacts with the particle coated with anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Capillary action moves the mixture up the membrane. If the sample contained antibodies, the specific antibodies present on the membrane will react with the mixture conjugate and generate a coloured positive line.

It is vital that the NHS doctors know if a person has antibodies, as this may affect their treatment and risk profile.

Rapid Detection Kits

SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A/B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus produce similar symptoms in many patients, such as a cough, a headache, and a fever. Like flu and ASV, SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid 19) has varying effects on people, ranging from asymptomatic incubation to organ failure and death.

It is also highly transmittable. In order to contain the virus, especially in the NHS, accurate and rapid testing is vital. This helps to protect staff and patients.

The VIASURE® Winter Multiplex CFR kit simultaneously detects SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A/B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus in respiratory samples in 80 minutes or less.

The CE marking of this test is complete, which means it is now compliant with EU regulations.

Pro-Lab have been supporting the NHS through the Covid-19 pandemic by providing them with these rapid testing kits. They can be stored at room temperature, meaning specialist storage equipment or fridge space is not needed.

They have a two year shelf life, reducing waste and allowing for financial savings through economies of scales that are passed on to the NHS.

Costs and waste are also saved by the ability to cut strips or pool mastermix and that you only need to add the buffer provided and the extracted sample. Once the mastermix is rehydrated it is stable for 4hrs, so is very robust.

It is possible to run between 1 and 96 tests at a time, depending on workload and throughput. This makes it incredibly efficient and cost-effective.
